Here is a selection of the activities that may be completed during the residential. Please note that weather conditions and unforeseen events may change some activities.
• Equipment inspection – all equipment on fire appliance
• Words of command & dressing
• Pump and hose running
• Casualty Evacuation and use of stretchers
• Communications – use of radios and phonetic alphabet
• Road traffic collision and use of cutting equipment
• Responding to emergencies – search and rescue of missing persons
• Hazmat exercise including decontamination
• Water Rescue at local canal boat yard, retrieving a person in the water
• Fire Safety & Use of extinguishers
• Combination drill
• Slow speed manoeuvring of vehicles – opportunity to drive 4x4 fire vehicle and fire engine
• Night-time drills (involving putting out live fires)
• Emergency First Aid including use of an AED
• Breathing Apparatus (including rescue of casualty from smoke room)
